Nitrous OxideDoes the thought of visiting our dental office make you panic? Would you like to enjoy coming to the dentist instead of dreading it? If so, we might recommend using nitrous oxide during your next dental visit.

Nitrous oxide, to put it simply, is a gas you can breathe. Discovered in 1772 by Humphrey Davy, this gas does not irritate, and it has no smell or colour. When breathed in, nitrous oxide kills pain and induces a euphoric feeling after about five minutes. In addition to this euphoria, you might also experience visual and auditory effects.

When we give you nitrous oxide at your appointment, it will be administered through a tube that is attached to a nasal cannula or hood. When the cannula or hood is held up to your nose, all you have to do is breathe to start experiencing the effects of the gas. If you experience any unpleasant symptoms after you start inhaling this gas, we can easily adjust the percentage of nitrous oxide you are receiving.

One of the main reasons why we often recommend nitrous oxide is that once you stop breathing it in, the effects stop. This means that after you are done with your appointment, you can drive yourself home safely.
